In service since 2007, the NH90 is a utility helicopter used mainly by the French, German, Italian, and Spanish armies and navies. It is produced by NHIndustries and its power plant consists of two Rolls Royce Turbomeca RTM322 turboshaft engines, which generates 2,230 hp each; the Spanish version is powered by two General Electric CT7 8F5 engines. It has a conventional layout design, with an upper main rotor, and a tail rotor that counteracts the torque effect of the main one. Maximum speed: 186 mph (300 km/h); range: 621 miles (1,000 km).
The NH90 is employed as a tactical transport, anti-submarine warfare, and cargo helicopter as it is fitted with a rear ramp gate to load military equipment. In the tactical transport role, it can carry up to 20 fully-equipped troops, being armed with either two 7.62-mm miniguns or machine guns. In the anti-submarine warfare role, the NATO Frigate helicopter variant, it is armed with air-to-surface missiles.
