The Walther P99 is a German, semi-automatic, recoil-operated pistol, chambered either for 9×19 Parabellum or .40S&W cartridges. It has been introduced in 1996 and is presently in service with several European law-enforcement agencies as it is produced by Carl Walther GmbH in Ulm, Germany. Fitted with a polymer frame and a steel slide, it features a double-action/single-action trigger, a 10.2-cm-long barrel, and 3-dot sights. The ambidextrous magazine release lever is within thumb reach, at the bottom of the trigger guard. It comes with three different replaceable backstraps to adjust the handgrip to different hand sizes.
